Forum on the Medicaid Block Grant
Join the voices of those who oppose this harmful proposal!
Experts agree that Medicaid block grants pose dire threats to our healthcare system and vulnerable individuals. The nation’s most respected patient advocacy groups oppose block grants as a threat to patients, and the Washington Post warned that Tennessee is about to sabotage its own health care system. Learn more as Ms. Sandra Rice gives us more information on Medicaid Block Grants and how it will affect everyone that uses Medicaid services.

Earlier this year, Ms. Claire Gardner of ACLU-Tn. spoke to us about the ACLU's interest in bail reform and in McMinn County in particular. On any given day, 50% of those incarcerated in our state are awaiting trial because of an inability to raise the cash required to pay the 10% required by a bail bondsman. In the interval, jobs are lost and families are disrupted. ACLU-Tn. has obtained funding for this project in McMinn County because that incarceration rate is even higher here and because our own State Senator Mike Bell is on the Judiciary Committee. Ms. Gardner hopes to film interviews with residents of our county whose lives have been adversely affected by an inability to post bond. ACLU-Tn. hopes to complete the project by the end of December if not sooner. I just e-mailed her asking how many interviews she hopes for and how long they would be. Please let me know ASAP if you know of anyone willing to help with this. Stephen 423-252-9966 Stephendick24@yahoo.com
